that the suspect, 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes who had been -- allegedly holding this boy in his backyard bunker all this time, that the suspect in the case is dead. kimberly, all of this began last tuesday afternoon. the boy was riding home on a school bus in this neighborhood, in this area where i am when a gunman boarded the bus, the bus driver positioned himself between the gunman and the children. the gunman opened fire fatally wounding mr. poland and one of the children was taken hostage. that child being that 5-year-old brought to a backyard bunker in the backyard of this suspect jimmy lee dykes, a 65-year-old who neighbors describe as very territorial someone who would become violent if neighbors or even a dog would venture anywhere close to his property. neighbors saying he harbored very strong anti government views. through out the standoff that ensued authorities kept a long line of communication with the suspect 24-hours a day through a pvc pipe that was providing ventilation from the surface down into under ground bunker. authorities releasing very few details about the discussions. the

monitoring the situation since tuesday. the suspect jimmy lee dykes stormed the school bus, killed the driver, snatched the child and took the little boy into an under ground bunker about 8 feet below ground. police believe dykes has enough food and water to last him several days. elizabeth pran is live at the scene. >> i want you to see how active the crime scene is. up at the top of the hill the fbi convening. we see the crime scene in consultant motion. -- constant motion. we spoke to the police chief he gave us details about the bunker. it's about 4 by 6 feet meaning it's 4 feet wide. it's the size of a rectangle. 4 wide 6 feet long and 8 feet deep. i doesn't know how many supplies he has for how long stored up there. he does know and can confirm they are communicating with the suspect through that pvc pipe they are talking about. the pvc pipe is about 60 feet long. the neighbors describe it as protruding out of what seems to be a homemade fence outside of his driveway. he says the boy is safe. he can confirm he is getting medication. he skaz the family is holding up. although this is ver

to jimmy lee dykes through a ventilation pipe. they say they can hear the child crying for his parents. police say dykes is showing no signs of ending the standoff which is now in its fourth day. elizabeth prann live in midland city, alabama for us. what are you seeing activity wise where you are, elizabeth? >> reporter: well, in just the past hour or two we've seen an increase of activities. as you can see, the s.w.a.p. members over my shoulder going up that dirt road. the suspect's property is slightly behind those white buildings, and police have confirmed that they're communicating to the suspect with a pvc pipe. this is an example of what he's using to communicate. 4 inches, this is about 5 pounds, this is a 4-foot pvc pipe. we know there is 60 feet of pvc piping from the driveway or from the roadway of this suspect's property all the way to the bunker, and what we know from witnesses and neighbors is that that pvc piping is also going through additional buildings on that property. we are waiting for an update from authorities, we're hoping to hear from them 4:30 locally and, of c
